ऋचा / सूक्त

अग्न आ याहि वीतये गृणानो हव्यदातये । नि होता सत्सि बर्हिषि ॥ ॥१॥ तं त्वा समिद्भिरङ्गिरो घृतेन वर्धयामसि । बृहच्छोचा यविष्ठ्य ॥ ॥२॥ स नः पृथु श्रवाय्यमच्छा देव विवाससि । बृहदग्ने सुवीर्यम् ॥ ॥३॥

“

Verse 1: Come, O Agni, praised with our sacred songs, to accept the oblations; take thy seat upon the sacred grass as our high priest. Verse 2: O Angiras Agni, we kindle and nourish thee with sacred fuel and clarified butter; shine brilliantly, O youngest deity. Verse 3: O Divine Agni, bestow upon us widespread renown and heroic spiritual strength.

इन्द्रं विश्वा अवीवृधन्त्समुद्रव्यचसं गिरः । रथीतमं रथीनां वाजानां सत्पतिं पतिम् ॥ ॥१॥ स्वादिष्ठया मदिष्ठया पवस्व सोम धारया । इन्द्राय पातवे सुतः ॥ ॥२॥ रक्षिहा विश्वचर्षणिर्भि रक्षसां विश्वभोजसम् । तमु त्वा सत्य सोम राजा सुयज्ञे वर्धयामसि ॥ ॥३॥

“

Verse 1: Universal hymns of praise glorify Indra, wide as the ocean, the foremost among chariot-warriors and lord of all valor. Verse 2: Flow forth, O Soma, in thy sweetest and most exhilarating stream, prepared for the divine drink. Verse 3: Slayer of malevolent forces, all-nourishing King Soma, we exalt thee in our auspicious sacrifice.

उदु त्यं जातवेदसं देवं वहन्ति केतवः । दृशे विश्वाय सूर्यम् ॥ ॥१॥ इन्द्राय साम गायत विप्राय बृहते बृहत् । धर्मकृते सुचेतसे ॥ ॥२॥ प्र व इन्द्राय बृहते मरुतो गात सुष्टुतिम् । यन्महित्वमस्य रोदसी ॥ ॥३॥

“

Verse 1: His radiant heralds bear aloft the Sun, the divine seer of all creation, that all may behold the light of Truth. Verse 2: Sing the exalted Saman chants unto Indra, the upholder of Dharma and the wise protector of righteousness. Verse 3: Sing splendid hymns unto the supreme Indra and the Maruts, whose grandeur illuminates heaven and earth.

विश्वे देवाः शृणुतेमं हवं मे ये अन्तरिक्षे य उप द्यवि ष्ठ । ॥१॥ मित्रावरुणा तपुषा न उभा वृष्टीव पाथः । पाहि नो दम्येभ्यः ॥ ॥२॥ त्वं हि नः पिता वसो त्वं माता शतक्रतो बभूविथ । अथा ते सुम्नमीमहे ॥ ॥३॥

“

Verse 1: May all universal deities inhabiting the celestial realms hear this our invocation with grace. Verse 2: May Mitra and Varuna, like refreshing rain, protect our homes and households with divine security. Verse 3: Thou verily art our Father, O Lord of hundred powers, thou art our Mother; therefore do we seek thy divine benevolence.

उच्चा ते जातमन्धसो दिवि सद्भूम्या ददे । उग्रं शर्म महि श्रवः ॥ ॥१॥ एष देवो अमर्त्यः पर्णवीरिव दीयति । अभी नो वाजसातये ॥ ॥२॥ अग्ने रक्षा णो अंहसः प्रति स्म देव रीषतः । तपिष्ठैरजरो दह ॥ ॥३॥

“

Verse 1: High-born in heaven and established upon earth, may this sacred Soma bestow upon us supreme spiritual shelter and boundless renown. Verse 2: This immortal divine Soma moves with swift celestial power, bringing strength and auspicious victory unto our lives. Verse 3: O Agni, protect us from distress and sin; with thy hottest flames, O ageless one, consume all negativity.

स नः पावक दीदिहि द्युमदस्मे सुवीर्यम् । भवा मन्दिन्यदा वयं नमो भरन्तः ॥ ॥१॥ गावो ममान्तु वीतये हय्या नयन्त्वा सुतम् । इन्द्रं सोमेषु मन्दिनम् ॥ ॥२॥ स घा नो योग आ भुवत् स राये स पुरन्ध्याम् । गमद् वाजेभिरा स नः ॥ ॥३॥

“

Verse 1: O purifying Agni, shine brightly within us with spiritual splendor and heroic virtue as we bring our reverent homage. Verse 2: May sacred resources sustain us; may Indra rejoice in the consecrated Soma and stand as our protector. Verse 3: May He aid us in our spiritual acquisition (Yoga), sustain our wealth, and bless our minds with wisdom and victory.

त्वं न इन्द्र त्रातासि त्वं वसो नः पतिर्ऋता । त्वामित् सखायमीमहे ॥ ॥१॥ येना पावक चक्षुसा भुरण्यन्तं जनाँ अनु । त्वं वरुण पश्यसि ॥ ॥२॥ अग्न आ याहि वीतये गृणानो हव्यदातये । नि होता सत्सि बर्हिषि ॥ ॥३॥

“

Verse 1: Thou art our true protector, O Indra, Lord of cosmic order; we seek thy pure and unfailing friendship. Verse 2: With that pure and penetrating vision whereby thou beholdest all deeds of mortals, O Surya, shower thy blessings upon us. Verse 3: Come, O Agni, praised with our sacred songs, to accept the oblations; take thy seat upon the sacred grass as our high priest.
