रहा एक दिन अवधि कर अति आरत पुर लोग। जहँ तहँ सोचहिं नारि नर कृस तन राम बियोग॥

श्री रामजी के लौटने की अवधि का एक ही दिन बाकी रह गया, अतएव नगर के लोग बहुत आतुर (अधीर) हो रहे हैं। राम के वियोग में दुबले हुए स्त्री-पुरुष जहाँ-तहाँ सोच (विचार) कर रहे हैं (कि क्या बात है श्री रामजी क्यों नहीं आए)।

Only one day remained of the fixed term of exile, and the entire city was overcome with deep anguish and impatience. Men and women alike, their bodies grown thin and frail through the pain of separation from Shri Ram, wandered here and there, absorbed in anxious reflection, (wondering why Shri Ram had not yet returned).

रहेउ एक दिन अवधि अधारा। समुझत मन दुख भयउ अपारा॥ कारन कवन नाथ नहिं आयउ। जानि कुटिल किधौं मोहि बिसरायउ॥1॥

He wondered what cause there could be that his Lord had not come, and feared that the Lord, knowing him to be deceitful, might have forgotten him.

रघुवंश के भूषण श्री रामजी क्या कभी अपने दास की भाँति मेरा स्मरण करते रहे हैं? भरतजी के अत्यंत नम्र वचन सुनकर हनुमान्‌जी पुलकित शरीर होकर उनके चरणों पर गिर पड़े (और मन में विचारने लगे कि) जो चराचर के स्वामी हैं, वे श्री रघुवीर अपने श्रीमुख से जिनके गुणसमूहों का वर्णन करते हैं, वे भरतजी ऐसे विनम्र, परम पवित्र और सद्गुणों के समुद्र क्यों न हों?

…“Did the jewel of Raghu’s clan ever remember me as His servant?” Hearing this humble question of Bharat ji, Hanuman ji’s body thrilled with joy, and he fell reverently at Bharat ji’s feet. Hanuman ji reflected within his heart, “When the Lord of all animate and inanimate creation, Shri Raghuveer, Himself speaks of someone’s virtues with His own sacred lips, how could that person not be humble, deeply devoted, and an ocean of noble qualities?”

राम प्रान प्रिय नाथ तुम्ह सत्य बचन मम तात। पुनि पुनि मिलत भरत सुनि हरष न हृदयँ समात॥2क॥

(हनुमान्‌जी ने कहा-) हे नाथ! आप श्री रामजी को प्राणों के समान प्रिय हैं, हे तात! मेरा वचन सत्य है। यह सुनकर भरतजी बार-बार मिलते हैं, हृदय में हर्ष समाता नहीं है॥2क॥

Hanuman ji replied, “Lord, you are as dear to Shri Ram as His very life, take my words as true, dear brother.” Hearing these words, Bharat ji embraced Hanuman ji again and again, his heart overflowing with love.

भरत चरन सिरु नाइ तुरित गयउ कपि राम पहिं। कही कुसल सब जाइ हरषि चलेउ प्रभु जान चढ़ि॥2ख॥

After bowing his head at the feet of Shri Bharat, Hanuman ji departed to meet Shri Ram. Hanuman ji conveyed Bharat ji’s well-being to the Lord, and Shri Ram, filled with joy, then mounted the Pushpak plane and proceeded toward Ayodhya.

कमल के समान नेत्रों से जल बह रहा है। सुंदर शरीर में पुलकावली (अत्यंत) शोभा दे रही है। त्रिलोकी के स्वामी प्रभु श्री रामजी छोटे भाई भरतजी को अत्यंत प्रेम से हृदय से लगाकर मिले। भाई से मिलते समय प्रभु जैसे शोभित हो रहे हैं, उसकी उपमा मुझसे कही नहीं जाती। मानो प्रेम और श्रृंगार शरीर धारण करके मिले और श्रेष्ठ शोभा को प्राप्त हुए॥1॥

Lord Ram’s lotus eyes streamed with tears of love, and His charming body was adorned with goosebumps throughout; the Lord of the three spheres of the Cosmos lovingly embraced His younger brother. Lord Shiv said to Parvati ji, “Uma, I cannot find words to describe the beauty of the Lord’s meeting with His younger brother Bharat; it appeared as though love and beauty themselves had taken living form and come together, filling that sacred moment with divine splendour.”

पुनि प्रभु हरषि सत्रुहन भेंटे हृदयँ लगाइ। लछिमन भरत मिले तब परम प्रेम दोउ भाइ॥5॥

Then Lakshman ji embraced his younger brother Shatrughan ji, and the terrible agony born of long separation was eased; thereafter, Bharat ji and Shatrughan ji bowed their heads at Sita ji’s feet, and both brothers were filled with supreme delight.

जनु धेनु बालक बच्छ तजि गृहँ चरन बन परबस गईं। दिन अंत पुर रुख स्रवत थन हुंकार करि धावत भईं॥ अति प्रेम प्रभु सब मातु भेटीं बचन मृदु बहुबिधि कहे। गइ बिषम बिपति बियोगभव तिन्ह हरष सुख अगनित लहे॥

मानो नई ब्यायी हुई गायें अपने छोटे बछड़ों को घर पर छोड़ परवश होकर वन में चरने गई हों और दिन का अंत होने पर (बछड़ों से मिलने के लिए) हुँकार करके थन से दूध गिराती हुईं नगर की ओर दौड़ी हों। प्रभु ने अत्यंत प्रेम से सब माताओं से मिलकर उनसे बहुत प्रकार के कोमल वचन कहे। वियोग से उत्पन्न भयानक विपत्ति दूर हो गई और सबने (भगवान्‌ से मिलकर और उनके वचन सुनकर) अगणित सुख और हर्ष प्राप्त किए।

It was as though a newly calved cow, forced to leave her calf at home and spend the day grazing in the forest, returned to the city lowing aloud and rushing to meet her calf, milk streaming from her udders. The Lord greeted all His mothers with the deepest affection and spoke many gentle and soothing words, thus easing the terrible sorrow born of separation from Shri Ram and filling their hearts with boundless joy and fulfilment.

भेंटेउ तनय सुमित्राँ राम चरन रति जानि। रामहि मिलत कैकई हृदयँ बहुत सकुचानि॥6क॥

Mother Sumitra embraced her son Shri Lakshman, recognizing his unwavering devotion to Lord Ram’s lotus-feet. And when meeting Shri Ram, Mother Kaikeyi felt great apprehension within her heart.

सासुन्ह सबनि मिली बैदेही । चरनन्हि लाग हरषु अति तेही॥ देहिं असीस बूझि कुसलाता। होइ अचल तुम्हार अहिवाता॥1॥

Videhi ji met all her mothers-in-law and was filled with deep joy as She touched their feet in reverence. They lovingly inquired about Her well-being and blessed Her, saying, “May Your married life be blessed forever.”

लछिमन अरु सीता सहित प्रभुहि बिलोकति मातु। परमानंद मगन मन पुनि पुनि पुलकित गातु॥7॥

(शिवजी कहते हैं-) हे भवानी! प्रभु ने जान लिया कि माता कैकेयी लज्जित हो गई हैं (इसलिए), वे पहले उन्हीं के महल को गए और उन्हें समझा-बुझाकर बहुत सुख दिया। फिर श्री हरि ने अपने महल को गमन किया॥1॥

Lord Shiv said to Parvati ji, “O’ Bhawani, the Lord perceived that His mother Kaikeyi was burdened with shame, so He first went to her palace, consoled her, and filled her heart with great joy. Thereafter, Shri Hari proceeded to His own palace.”

तब मुनि कहेउ सुमंत्र सन सुनत चलेउ हरषाइ। रथ अनेक बहु बाजि गज तुरत सँवारे जाइ॥10क॥

अवधपुरी अति रुचिर बनाई। देवन्ह सुमन बृष्टि झरि लाई॥ राम कहा सेवकन्ह बुलाई। प्रथम सखन्ह अन्हवावहु जाई॥1॥

The city of Ayodhya was adorned with great splendour, and the Demigods showered a continuous rain of flowers from the sky. Shri Ram then summoned the attendants and said, “Go and first prepare a bath for my friends.”

सासुन्ह सादर जानकिहि मज्जन तुरत कराइ। दिब्य बसन बर भूषन अँग अँग सजे बनाइ॥11क॥

प्रभु बिलोकि मुनि मन अनुरागा। तुरत दिब्य सिंघासन मागा॥ रबि सम तेज सो बरनि न जाई। बैठे राम द्विजन्ह सिरु नाई॥1॥

प्रभु को देखकर मुनि वशिष्ठजी के मन में प्रेम भर आया। उन्होंने तुरंत ही दिव्य सिंहासन मँगवाया, जिसका तेज सूर्य के समान था। उसका सौंदर्य वर्णन नहीं किया जा सकता। ब्राह्मणों को सिर नवाकर श्री रामचंद्रजी उस पर विराज गए॥1॥

Upon seeing Lord Ram, Sage Vashishth’s heart overflowed with joy. He immediately sent for a divine throne, radiant like the Sun and beyond all description, and after bowing to the Brahmins, Lord Ram seated Himself upon it.

नभ दुंदुभीं बाजहिं बिपुल गंधर्ब किंनर गावहीं। नाचहिं अपछरा बृंद परमानंद सुर मुनि पावहीं॥ भरतादि अनुज बिभीषनांगद हनुमदादि समेत ते। गहें छत्र चामर ब्यजन धनु असिचर्म सक्ति बिराजते॥1॥

आकाश में बहुत से नगाड़े बज रहे हैं। गन्धर्व और किन्नर गा रहे हैं। अप्सराओं के झुंड के झुंड नाच रहे हैं। देवता और मुनि परमानंद प्राप्त कर रहे हैं। भरत, लक्ष्मण और शत्रुघ्नजी, विभीषण, अंगद, हनुमान्‌ और सुग्रीव आदि सहित क्रमशः छत्र, चँवर, पंखा, धनुष, तलवार, ढाल और शक्ति लिए हुए सुशोभित हैं॥1॥

Many kettledrums resounded in the sky, while Gandharvas and Kinnars sang, and the celestial damsels danced, greatly delighting the Demigods and the Sages. Shri Bharat, Shri Lakshman, the younger brother Shri Shatrughan, Vibhishan, Angad, Hanuman ji, and others stood beside the Lord, holding the royal umbrella, chowries, fans, bows, swords with shields, and spears.

दोहा#31

वह सोभा समाज सुख कहत न बनइ खगेस। बरनहिं सारद सेष श्रुति सो रस जान महेस॥12क॥

हे पक्षीराज गरुड़जी ! वह शोभा, वह समाज और वह सुख मुझसे कहते नहीं बनता। सरस्वतीजी, शेषजी और वेद निरंतर उसका वर्णन करते हैं, और उसका रस (आनंद) महादेवजी ही जानते हैं॥12क॥

Kak Bhushundi ji said to Garud ji, “O’ King of Birds, the splendour and beauty of the assembly at the coronation of Shri Ram were beyond all description. Goddess Saraswati, Lord Shehsa, and the Vedas ceaselessly praise it, while the depth of the bliss it bestowed is known only to Lord Shiv.”

जय सगुन निर्गुन रूप रूप अनूप भूप सिरोमने। दसकंधरादि प्रचंड निसिचर प्रबल खल भुज बल हने॥ अवतार नर संसार भार बिभंजि दारुन दुख दहे। जय प्रनतपाल दयाल प्रभु संजुक्त सक्ति नमामहे॥1॥

सगुण और निर्गुण रूप! हे अनुपम रूप-लावण्ययुक्त! हे राजाओं के शिरोमणि! आपकी जय हो। आपने रावण आदि प्रचण्ड, प्रबल और दुष्ट निशाचरों को अपनी भुजाओं के बल से मार डाला। आपने मनुष्य अवतार लेकर संसार के भार को नष्ट करके अत्यंत कठोर दुःखों को भस्म कर दिया। हे दयालु! हे शरणागत की रक्षा करने वाले प्रभो! आपकी जय हो। मैं शक्ति (सीताजी) सहित शक्तिमान्‌ आपको नमस्कार करता हूँ॥1॥

In Lord Ram’s Kingdom, society was harmoniously organised into four primary groups, with each person joyfully performing their prescribed duties according to the Vedas and the Scriptures. These included the Brahmins, who served as priests, teachers, and scholars, the Kshatriyas, who upheld order as warriors, Kings, and administrators, the Vaishyas, who sustained society as farmers, traders, and agriculturists, and the Shudras, who contributed as workers, artisans, and labourers. Alongside this social order, people followed the four stages of life, beginning with student life, then household life, followed by transitioning to asceticism and finally the stage of complete renunciation. Walking firmly on the path of righteousness, people lived in happiness, free from fear, sorrow, and disease.

How can one adequately describe the splendour of a Kingdom where Shri Ram Himself, the eternal abode of Goddess Rama (Lakshmi ji), reigned as King? All men and women, the young and the elderly alike, lived in happiness, they were all of noble conduct, and beautiful in every respect.
